Non-Illuminated

Add some dimension to your signage, literally! Dimensional lettering is an effective way to grab attention and guide customers to your place of business. Exterior dimensional lettering can be installed directly to your building façade or to self-standing signage structures such as monument signs or other low profile signs.

There is a distinct difference between our dimensional letters and its cousin, the channel letter. Dimensional letters are illuminated externally. That is, if you’re looking to light up your sign by night, you’ll need to consider an external lighting source. If you’re looking for maximum impact, and the application warrants it, we recommend that you consider channel letters to internally illuminate your sign to attract attention to your brand, day or night.

Durable, yet economical, our dimensional lettering can be made in varying depths depending on the material you choose.

Common Materials
  • Foam
  • Molded plastic
  • Flat cut or laminated acrylic
  • Metal
  • Vacuum formed
  • Injection molded plastic

Another form of dimensional signage is a sandblasted, routed or hand carved sign. Image is everything in business. Although sandblasted signs are more expensive than ‘quick sign’ vinyl sticker style sign solutions, a sandblasted sign will last for decades. A typical vinyl sign has an exterior life expectancy of 5-7 years.

Whether you are looking for a residential entrance sign, development directional signs, business park tenant signs, lobby or reception displays, church reader boards or golf course signage, we can provide a solution that will exceed your expectations and leave a lasting impression.

Popular Substrates

Cedar – Cedar is a great sign building material because of its resistance to bugs and rot. Cedar is easily sandblasted and the resulting signs can last many years. The downside is that cedar is a natural product and no matter how much care is used in the fabrication of the cedar sign the wood is still (eventually) subject to decay. Cedar is also becoming harder to come by.

HDU (High Density Urethane) – HDU is the most popular choice of substrate for sandblasted signs today and it’s the material we use for the majority of our signs. It is impervious to insects and rot and unaffected by temperature changes. Unlike cedar, HDU is readily available, is stable, carves easily, and paints beautifully. It also looks just like wood when painted.

PVC (Expanded Polyvinyl Chloride) – PVC is a common substrate option for indoor signage. It is a great material for UV flatbed printing. It is also easy to cut by hand or with a router due to it being relatively soft with a smooth matte surface. PVC can last for decades indoors. The downside is outdoors it will last quite a while, but can be subject to warping due to heat and sunlight depending on the conditions. It’s available in a range of thicknesses from 1mm to 25mm’s and a range of colors.

Foam – Foam is our least expensive material and is used for indoor temporary signage. It’s made of lightweight, but fairly sturdy polystyrene board that has a paper coating on each side. It can be used up to 6 months, since it’s susceptible to water damage, scratches and everyday wear and tear.
